Last night, the Minnesota Twins found a way to beat the Chicago White Sox 7-5 in the first of a three game series at Target Field. The game was very even up until the ninth inning, when one hit was the deciding factor in the competition. The twins had an early 2-0 lead when Joe Mauer crushed a ball over the left field wall. Later in the first inning, Josh Willingham hit a single and then Justin Morneau hit a line drive double. After the bases had been loaded, the Twins hit a two run single to increase their lead by four. Then in the second inning, the White Sox answered with a two run shot to cut the score to two. After a few runs being scored in later innings, the score was finally tied at 5 at the top of the eighth. That’s when the Twins broke the tie. In the bottom of the eighth, the Twins drew a walk, hit a single, and then Ryan Doumit doubled to center to bring in the winning two runs. Doumit said after the game that it was a great feeling to be the guy to get that winning hit, but that he also could not have done it without his teammates getting on base, so it was a great team win. This was a great win for the Twins as they have lost their last four games in a row, and had only three hits in their previous four games.
