College Park, MD (PRWEB) June 20, 2013
Fifteen employees of La Prima Catering, a full-service corporate and special events catering company, rode over 900 miles as part of the Reston, VA Tour de Cure on June 2nd, raising more than $7,500 for the American Diabetes Association.
Five La Prima staff, including President Dave Evans and Events Director Dina Silnicky, completed the full 108-mile route. The Tour de Cure, held in 44 states around the U.S., includes routes ranging from 10 miles to more than 100 -- for the occasional rider to the experienced cyclist.
“With several La Prima employees living with diabetes, we felt it was important to participate,” said Evans. “We reached out to family, friends, clients and partners to raise awareness and funds for education, advocacy and research.”
Evans, who hadn’t been on a bike for years, trained for several months to prepare for the 108-mile ride.
“For many of our employees this was their first cycling experience, hopefully leading us all toward a more healthful lifestyle,” he added.
For La Prima Catering and it special events division, Catering by Seasons, this event was just another aspect of their commitment to good health. The company recently won the Maryland Green Registry’s 2013 Leadership Award for its role as an industry leader in sustainable, healthful food practices. Earlier this year La Prima earned the prestigious 3-Star Certification from the Green Restaurant Association. Its College Park kitchen is the greenest caterer in the DC region, based on the GRA’s exacting standards.
La Prima’s kitchens include farm fresh, organically grown produce in all meals, harvested onsite at the company’s own garden and through partnerships with local sustainable farms. Catering by Seasons specializes in farm to table celebrations with produce, fruit, meats, dairy and flowers sourced locally from its partner farms.
For couples interested in celebrating their weddings in eco-elegant, sustainable style, La Prima is also now a “5 Leaf” certified green caterer (5 out of 5 leaf rating) on the Green Bride Guide – again the highest score for a caterer in the DC metro region.
La Prima Catering kitchens operate in five locations throughout the Washington, Baltimore and Philadelphia metro regions, providing unsurpassed service that is fast and flexible. The company’s Catering by Seasons division offers a delicious, contemporary menu full of imagination and style for memorable special events such as weddings, corporate galas, religious celebrations and other important occasions.
