Creating your shopping list for Black Rock City? Wondering where you can spend a fun, family-friendly afternoon, while picking up LED lights, crafts, bikes, and other vital supplies? The Crucible, Oakland’s premier industrial art and educational space, has got you covered with Playa Bound: Sale & Open House.
On Saturday, June 22 from 11AM to 6PM, The Crucible will open its 56,000 square foot industrial art warehouse to artisans, vendors, and the community at-large for an afternoon of shopping, demonstrations, and inspiration. From first-timers to seasoned Black Rock veterans, to families and friends, Playa Bound encourages everyone to explore the many vendors, foodie, and exhibition experiences available.
“Playa Bound gives two closely related communities – newly-inspired and veteran vendors, as well as Crucible faculty and students – an opportunity to come together and highlight the skills, talents, and do-it-yourself abilities of Bay Area crafts people,” said Andrea Lundquist, Events Manager at The Crucible. “There’s a lot of inspiration out in that Black Rock Desert, where people realize they can make their own jewelry, leatherwork, or fashion accessories. Playa Bound is an exciting catalyst for that creativity.”
Playa Bound is particularly special for the variety of vendors who participate. From solar-powered sewing bikes to kilts, clothing, and accessories, each vendor proudly offers goods lovingly made by hand, generating a creative economy of one-of-a-kind items. Fire performances, departmental demonstrations, and wood-fired pizzas add spectacle and flavor to Playa Bound’s fun ambience.
In addition, The Crucible will be offering significant class discounts. New students who sign up for a class during this open house will receive 20% off class tuition. Crucible members will receive a 25% discount.
Playa Bound is a magnificent opportunity to support local artists while taking care of your Black Rock City shopping list. Bring your family and friends, shop for a purpose, and join the fun!
