I strongly believe that learning can be fun.
Pittsburgh, PA (PRWEB) January 13, 2013
Think Through Math has partnered with the Oklahoma State Department of Education to provide access to Think Through Math to all Oklahoma public school students. For the month of November, 367 schools competed in a contest to encourage kids to “do” math and have fun while learning the basic fundamentals of math, creating a stronger foundation for all of the students along their individual pathway’s to Algebra 1. Thousands of Oklahoma students in over 1,211 classrooms had the opportunity to participate at school, during after-school programs, and at home during the contest period.
Classrooms across Oklahoma battled to be crowned Oklahoma Math Cup Champions and snag the coveted trophy. The state champion class will receive an awards ceremony where each student will receive special recognition, champion banner, certificates and t-shirts. Think Through Math will also be recognizing each Regional Class Champion (total of 3) with a special class party prize package.
After calculating all of the problems solved and adding up the scores, Mr. Martini’s class from Cyril Elementary in Cyril, OK, was the champion with the highest average points per enrolled student. Mr. Martini’s class performance throughout the month long math cup contest won his class the honor of being selected as the top classroom in the state. This came as a result of his class completing 696 math lessons, consisting of more than 15,864 problems. His class gets an awards assembly at Cyril Elementary on January 15, at 9:30 a.m. where Dr. Janet Barresi State Superintendent, Jeff Downs, Executive Director of STEM will be attending to honor the students’ achievement.
Tammy Cocheran, Cyril Elementary principal said "I strongly believe that learning can be fun. I believe that it is up to us as educators to create unique and new teaching methods in order to make learning as pleasurable and fun as possible. Think Through Math has been one of those teaching methods! It is a program which is educational, meets common core standards, and is fun! I believe that because of this new fun way of learning math that we will see an increase in test scores. Thank you state department for such a fun competition and most importantly thank you for this new teaching program. Cyril Elementary loves it!”
