...a nurse should keep all credentials - licensure, past experiences, letters of recommendation and more - in one place.
Omaha, NE (PRWEB) May 10, 2013
In recognition of National Nurses Week, Aureus Medical Group (web: aureusmedical.com), a nationwide leader in healthcare staffing, brings attention to obstacles and pitfalls that those working in travel nursing medical careers should avoid during the job search. Nurses Week is celebrated annually, May 6-12.
Upon beginning an assignment, an RN may be eager to get right to work to begin caring for patients and experiencing the benefits that come with travel nursing jobs. To speed up the placement process with the travel nursing agency and to start assignments more quickly, keep the following tips in mind.
Obstacle #1: Incomplete file
One of the most common issues travel nursing agencies come across when trying to process a travel nurse assignment is an incomplete file, according to Healthcare Traveler. To avoid this stumbling block, a nurse should keep all credentials – licensure, past experiences, letters of recommendation and more – in one place. Paper copies in a folder suffice, but scanning the documents into a computer is recommended so a digital copy is ready just in case it is needed. Keep digital files organized in one folder on the computer’s desktop.
It is also important to keep the CV up to date and organized in the proper format. According to Nurse Uncut, a CV should be brief and professional. It should include the individual’s name and all contact details, as well as qualifications and corresponding dates. List any professional affiliations, education, specialties, employment history and any publications or presentations that have been completed.
Obstacle #2: Prescription medications
Just as a nurse is familiar with all of the prescription medications of their patients, it is important for RNs to mention prescriptions they themselves are on when applying for travel nursing positions. Drug testing precedes each new assignment and many prescription medications will show up on the screening. When something shows up on this screening, it may take a few extra days to process the application and verify the medications. If the travel nursing company is aware of medications beforehand, it can plan accordingly.
Obstacle #3: Special requests
Does travel involve a pet? Has a request been made for a travel nursing assignment in a particular city with limited openings? Any special requests relating to housing may also cause a delay. While most travel nursing agencies can cater to specific requests, expect to experience some delays in the processing of the application when the requests are made.
