“We do this to remember those who have fought the good fight and for those who continue to fight on in the face of deadly cancers.” – Terri Tippett

For the past 11 years Rocky Hill Middle School has held an annual fundraiser raising $85,000 to help combat cancer. Each year they set a goal to raise $10,000 and have met that goal twice. They are dedicating this year’s fundraiser to Sam Moore, a former Rocky Hill student who passed away last August from brain cancer. Sam was 15. The fundraiser will commence at 5:00 pm on May 10th with dinner and activities. Later in the evening, at 7:00 pm, there will be a rematch in which the Rocky Hill staff will take the basketball court against the parents who prevailed in 2012 and 2011.

This family-friendly event will have food, fun, prizes and entertainment including a dunk tank, moon bounce, face painting and a photo booth. In the past business owners have donated items or services for the Rocky Hill silent auction. There will also be a Willpower photo slide show to honor loved ones who have fought cancer and to remember loved ones who succumbed to cancer. One of the highlights of the fundraiser is announcing the recipient of the “Willpower Award” which is awarded to a student who has faced adversity with character, integrity and perseverance. One of the most memorable recipients of this award was to a student who was left a quadriplegic after being hit by a car. His reaction was priceless and his whole family was there to see him receive the award.

Susan G. Komen, the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, and the Childhood Brain Tumor Foundation are the organizations to which money raised during the fundraiser are donated. For more information on the Willpower Game visit
