Elite athletes are competitive by nature and with increasing numbers adopting the ElliptiGO as part of their training regimen, we knew the day would come when they’d want to start racing them on the track.
San Diego, CA (PRWEB) May 10, 2013
ElliptiGO Inc., creators of the world’s first elliptical bicycle, today announced the winners of the first-ever one-mile ElliptiGO race on a running track. Competing at the inaugural RE:RUN San Diego Road Race and Track Meet, elite masters runner and reigning ElliptiGO world champion Rusty Snow claimed victory over pro runner Craig Leon in the men’s division. In the women’s division, it was 2012 NCAA Division II Track Athlete of the Year Betsy Graney who rode to victory over 2008 Olympic marathoner Magdalena Lewy Boulet. With their wins, Snow and Graney established new ElliptiGO records and were each awarded $1,000 in prize money.
“Elite athletes are competitive by nature and with increasing numbers adopting the ElliptiGO as part of their training regimen, we knew the day would come when they’d want to start racing them on the track,” stated Bryan Pate, Co-Founder and Co-President of ElliptiGO. "We were extremely pleased to introduce this exciting new style of racing at a professional track meet of RE:RUN’s caliber, and we couldn’t be happier with how these athletes performed and how supportive the team at RE:RUN was. With the success of this event, we look forward to introducing more of these track races in the future.”
Since its introduction in 2010, the ElliptiGO has become the cross-training tool of choice for more than 70 elite athletes as well as dozens of university and professional teams around the world. The ElliptiGO Mile at RE:RUN is one of five ElliptiGO-only events planned for 2013. Others include the ElliptiGO Double in Colorado, the New England ElliptiGO Summer Classic in Massachusetts, and the World Championships of Elliptical Cycling in California.
The official times for the ElliptiGO Mile men’s division were: 1. Rusty Snow (2:41.40) and 2. Craig Leon (3:12.31). In the women’s division, it was 1. Betsy Graney (3:06.06) and 2. Magdalena Lewy Boulet (3:42.83).
In addition to the four racers in the ElliptiGO Mile, several other ElliptiGO athletes competed in the track meet. 2012 Olympic 800-meter runner Geena Gall was 6th in the 800-meters, 8-Time All American Katie Mackey was 3rd in the Mile, and 2012 USA Road 10K Champion Chelsea Reilly was 10th in the Mile.
