Military Spouse magazine (http://militaryspouse.com) held its inaugural Military Spouse Summit today in Washington, D.C., the day after its 2013 Armed Forces Insurance Military Spouse of the Year® Awards Luncheon. Admiral James Winnefeld, Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, thanked military spouses for the integral role they play and introduced Dr. Jill Biden who addressed the importance of the military family.

The summit addressed a host of topics including employment issues in the military spouse community, working with one’s Congressional members, and advocating for the greater military community. Panelists included: Sheila Casey, Chief Operating Officer at The Hill, Joyce Raezer, Executive Director of the National Military Family Association, Rene Campos, Deputy Director of Government Relations at MOAA, Laura Dempsey, Director of Spouse Employment Programs at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and Meg O’Grady, Director of Spouse Education and Career Opportunities at the Office of the Secretary of Defense.
