Madison’s First Modern Home Tour, April 6

Select homes throughout Madison open their doors to visitors for a day of modern architecture and interior design exploration. The Madison Museum of Contemporary Art is the benefitting local non-profit partner.

On Saturday, April 6th, Modern Home Tours makes a premier visit to Madison Wisconsin. Residents will get the opportunity to explore some of the greatest examples of modern architecture and interior design, right in their own town on the Madison Modern Home Tour.

The self-guided driving tour will feature six to ten architecturally progressive and contemporary homes that exemplify modern living in and around the Madison area. See first hand how homes incorporate the principles of modernist thinking with cutting edge building science and sustainable techniques when craft, science, and talent all come together to create a completely modern dwelling.

Home enrollment is still underway; local architects are encouraged to submit. To date, architects and neighborhoods featured on the tour include:

A 21st century modern home by Tills Architecture in Madison’s Arboretum neighborhood
A spacious prairie modern home by GMK Architecture in Verona
A second contemporary prairie modern style home in Middleton, designed by Jay Weatherford
A second home designed by GMK Architecture, located in Mount Horeb, built and designed with the future in mind
A unit inside the Capitol West Condominiums in downtown Madison, designed by The Alexander Company
A second Alexander Company design, parked right in the condo parking lot; go inside and check out a fully modern Airstream Trailer!

Modern Home Tours has selected the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art (MMoCA) as the non-profit/benefitting partner. Elizabeth Tucker, Director of Development at MMoCA, says the pairing of the museum and tour is a perfect match.

"The Madison Museum of Contemporary Art is thrilled to be involved with Madison Modern Home Tour as a non-profit partner,” says Tucker. “The tour will be of great interest to the community’s many architecture and design enthusiasts, a group the museum knows very well through our many design-related events offered over the years. A portion of the proceeds from the tour will support the free exhibitions and education programs that MMoCA offers year-round."

Participating homes will open their doors for viewing from 11AM – 5PM on Saturday, April 6th, in and around Madison, Wisconsin. Tickets are $30 in advance; $40 on the day of the tour, available at designated locations. All are invited. Kids under 12 are free.
