Microsoft did not provide a connection between its Business Connectivity Services and the SharePoint 2010 Managed Metadata feature, so SharePoint Solutions created one.
Today the company announced a new SharePoint software add-on called Managed Metadata Term Store Sync for SharePoint 2010 (Term Sync), which provides the missing link between a business’s data and its SharePoint taxonomy.
With Term Sync 2010, organizations of all sizes, in all industries, can import terms from their line of business systems and use them to tag their documents, list items and pages in SharePoint.
The imported terms are kept in sync with their business data, so new terms are created automatically and existing terms are updated when the business data changes. Synchronization can be done automatically on a schedule or manually on demand.
“If you have data outside of SharePoint that would be useful as metadata on document libraries inside of SharePoint — but is not currently connected to SharePoint — this powerful yet easy-to-use add-on will bring your SharePoint taxonomy alive by aligning it to your business,” said Tony Bierman, managing director of SharePoint Solutions’ commercial software division.
“Whether you need to synchronize names, update customer/internal information, or simply standardize terminology so that everyone is on the same page, Term Sync will get your business data and your SharePoint taxonomy linked and synced,” he added.
