Florida Southern College (FSC) recently honored Joseph T. Sefcik, Jr., founder and president of Employment Technologies Corporation, with the 2013 Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award. Dr. Anne Kerr, president of FSC, presented the award at the school’s annual Founders Day Convocation.

“Each year on Founders Day, Florida Southern College recognizes alumni who have achieved excellence in their professions and who practice the highest ethical standards,“ said Dr. Robert H. Tate, Vice President of Advancement and External Relations at FSC. “In recognition of his many accomplishments in his profession and his community, Florida Southern College is proud to present to Joe Sefcik, Class of 1976, the 2013 Distinguished Alumni Award. Recipients of the Distinguished Alumni Award are exemplars of our College’s mission of making positive and important contributions to society.”

A pioneer of simulation-based employment testing, Mr. Sefcik’s passion for improving the fairness and accuracy of employment testing transformed an industry. Sefcik spearheaded efforts to combine simulation and assessment technologies in the mid-1980s, notably designing the inaugural simulations for major organizations such as The Coca Cola Company, Ford Motor Company, and the New York Police Department.

Sefcik and his wife Eugenia founded Employment Technologies Corporation (ETC) in 1995. ETC’s EASy Simulations revolutionized the hiring process for companies worldwide by replacing traditional text-based employment tests with highly realistic, interactive simulations. A five-time winner of the prestigious Human Resource Executive “Top HR Product of the Year” award, ETC remains at the forefront of simulation research and design and is the world’s #1 developer and provider of employment simulations.

Sefcik served as a consultant to the U.S. Department of Labor and the Secretary’s Commission on Achieving Necessary Skills (SCANS) and was a member of the State of Florida Chamber of Commerce Education Committee. He served as president of the Central Florida Chapter of the American Society for Training and Development, as a board member of the Organizational Communications Department at Rollins College, and as Chairman of the Board for the Christ School. Mr. Sefcik and his company developed Junior Achievements most popular nationwide program, JA Success Skills. ETC sponsors the Psychology Lab at Florida Southern College, donated the Graduate Psychology Research Lab at University of Central Florida, and actively participates in community programs for Job Partnership of Florida, Frontline Outreach, Goodwill Industries, and Urban Leagues. ETC also sponsors a Central Florida outreach program founded and administered by Mr. Sefcik’s wife, Eugenia. The program makes it possible for inner city kids to attend the life-changing summer camp—Kids Across America.
