Healdsburg Primary Care Brings Multi-Specialist Healthcare Services to Rural North Sonoma County

The current trend of medical students opting for specialist jobs in urban areas over primary care jobs in rural areas has created a deficit in available generalist care for millions of Americans. Located at 1312 Prentice Drive next to Healdsburg District Hospital (HDH, http://www.healdsburgdistricthospital.com), Healdsburg Primary Care (HPC) physicians explain the vital role their practice fills in rural North Sonoma County and its surrounding communities today.

Our close affiliation with the Healdsburg District Hospital enables us to refer to the best specialists in our extensive network of trusted experts.

More than two decades ago, Healdsburg Primary Care (HPC) was created for the primary purpose of providing residents in the rural communities north of Santa Rosa with quality, comprehensive health care. HPC makes it easy for families to partner with some of the best primary care physicians in Northern California, with direct access to HDH specialist care and hospital services.

For years now, the United States has contended with an ongoing shortage in primary care physicians--especially in rural areas--and news stories from this year show that the shortage is projected to get considerably worse within the next five-ten years. While rural communities have struggled to attract physicians, HPC has delivered quality healthcare services for decades, and continues to do so. HPC physicians and staff live and work in the community they practice in, and, as community members, they are dedicated to helping their friends and neighbors lead happy and healthy lives.

A multi-specialist practice, HPC offers care from six experienced, board certified physicians from a variety of educational backgrounds, all of whom value the compassionate doctor-patient relationships that come with practicing as healthcare generalists. Currently accepting new patients, HPC physicians include Mary A. Berg, MD, Andre Gerard, MD, Paul J. Marguglio, MD, Rachel Mayorga, MD, Thomas A. Warr, MD, and Locke Wilson, MD. HPC doctors carry board certifications in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Obstetrics, and Geriatrics to ensure that patients can choose a doctor that is right for their individual preference and lifestyle needs.

HPC physicians’ combined breadth of medical knowledge is paramount to their success in bringing excellent, comprehensive healthcare to their patients, whom would otherwise have to travel 20-30 minutes further for appointments with their primary care physicians. HPC internists diagnose and treat adult health problems of the blood, glands, heart, lungs, stomach, kidneys, liver and other organs. Board certified family medicine physicians are skilled in many areas of medicine, including minor surgeries, pediatrics, full obstetrical care, young adult care, gynecology, common dermatologic conditions, adult medicine, geriatrics and primary care psychiatry.

HPC pediatric care encompasses a comprehensive spectrum of services, including all immunizations, wellness exams, and other services from preventive health to diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic illnesses of children. In addition, HPC doctors provide all prenatal care and obstetrical services for the delivery of newborns.

Dr. Locke Wilson, HPC’s Medical Director explains the contribution HPC provides to the quality of healthcare available in the area, “While HPC emphasizes preventive medicine, the practice’s partnership with HDH ensures that our patients have access to specialists and advanced medical technologies if hospitalization is required. HDH offers innovative services in wound care, neurology, orthopedic care, pulomonary medicine, occupational health, specialty stroke care, and emergent/urgent intervention, and our close affiliation with the hospital enables us to refer to the best specialists in our extensive network of trusted experts. With that said, we also have the ability to refer patients to specialists of their choice, even if the physician is outside North Sonoma County Healthcare District. An additional benefit to HPC patients, our proximity to HDH enables us to continue providing face-to-face care for our hospitalized patients.”

HPC is a growing practice currently accepting new patients, and proudly providing first-rate primary healthcare to meet the needs of the 60,000 residents of Windsor, Healdsburg, Geyserville, Cloverdale and the surrounding rural communities of Northern Sonoma County, California. The physicians at HPC accept most health insurance plans and Medicare.
