Brookfield, WI (PRWEB) January 11, 2013
Jan. 11, 2013 – Super Bowl tickets have been selling at a steadily rising clip as game day nears, BargainSeatsOnline.com reports. The game will match the AFC and NFC champions, and it will kick off at 5:30 p.m. CDT on Feb. 3. New Orleans will be playing host to its 10th championship game on that date. No city has hosted more. The contest will be played at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.
The game will mark the 20th anniversary of the 1993 contest. In that earlier game, the Dallas Cowboys claimed its third title, its first in 15 years, with a dominating 52-17 victory over the Buffalo Bills. The loss for the Bills was the team's third straight in this contest. Buffalo would go on to fall in four straight title tilts, the first and only time a team has done that.
The Cowboys forced Buffalo to commit nine turnovers that day, and Dallas scored 35 points off of those mistakes. Four interceptions and five recovered fumbles for Dallas were the difference in the game. Although the contest was relatively close entering the fourth quarter as Dallas held a 31-17 lead at the time, the Cowboys put the finishing touches on their win with a 21-point final quarter.
The host stadium for that 1993 game was the Rose Bowl. That stadium is located just north of Los Angeles in Pasadena, Calif. The Rose Bowl game, the oldest bowl game, is played here. That contest was first held in January 1902, and it has been played on an annual basis since January 1916. The stadium has also played host to the BCS National Championship Game in 2002, 2006 and 2010. It will do so again in 2014.
That stadium has also played host to some historic non-football events. Events at the 1932 and 1984 Summer Olympics have taken place here. The finals of the 1994 World Cup and the 1999 Women’s World Cup have been played at this incredible facility. Eight games at the 1994 event and four at the 1999 tournament were played here. Metallica, Guns N’ Roses, Pink Floyd and U2 have entertained thousands here over the years.
