Baltimore, MD (PRWEB) May 27, 2009

Clarke Publishing Group today announced its formation at the Society for Scholarly Publishing's 2009 Annual Meeting. This new publishing services company will focus on helping scholarly, professional, and society publishers navigate today's rapidly changing information landscape.

"Our aim is to help publishers not only succeed, but prosper in this challenging environment," said Michael Clarke, founder of Clarke Publishing Group.

According to a recent report released by the publishing industry market intelligence firm, Simba Information, the global recession will lead to slower growth in professional publishing markets through 2010. However, spending on electronic publishing products and services is forecast to remain strong, helping this industry weather the economic storm. "Budgets are strained and customers are being more selective in what they are willing to spend money on, however, there are still growth opportunities for publishers that embrace new technologies and adapt to the changing information needs of their customers," added Clarke.

Clarke Publishing Group offers a range of services including new product development, assessment of electronic publishing systems and strategy, marketing and market research, strategic planning, pricing, international rights, and institutional licensing.

Mr. Clarke is a long-time veteran of the scholarly publishing industry. Most recently, he was director of marketing and product development and director of international business at the American Medical Association (AMA), where he was responsible for numerous projects related to the AMA's publishing activities. While at the AMA he developed JAMA & Archives Backfiles, a digital collection consisting of over 1.5 million pages of content spanning over a century. Prior to the AMA he held positions at the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), where he was senior managing editor of scholarly journals and executive editor of the journal Pediatrics, and at the University of Chicago Press, where he was senior production editor. He currently serves as vice-chair of the American Heart Association's (AHA) Scientific Public Communications Committee, which oversees the AHA's journal publishing program.
