In the latest HRmarketer.com HR Market Share podcast, Steve Boese shares his opinion on why the adoption rate of human resource technology is low among small and mid-sized companies. Boese is an adjunct professor at the Rochester Institute of Technology in New York. He developed and delivers one of the few graduate-level courses fully dedicated to technology for the human resources function.
“I do find it really remarkable at how many organizations and human resource professionals are still suffering with mind numbing administrative processes,” said Boese. “So many companies are still doing things the way they did 10 – 15 years ago.”
Boese attributes some of the lack of adoption to a perception that technology offerings are very expensive, as well as a perception that the technology is complex. For smaller companies with limited resources, adopting a new technology can be a daunting task. Boese recommends that HR supplies address the business issues with prospective customers. It’s important for suppliers to really take into consideration the lack of awareness among HR professional when educating them on the benefits of their technology.
Boese’s students range from entry level to seasoned HR professionals. He finds the majority of his students have very little knowledge of HR technology. Boese educates his students on the benefits of HR technology and how it can increase an HR professional’s productivity.
