Paralegal organizations throughout Louisiana celebrated Paralegal Week September 13-19, 2009. In honor of Paralegal Week, Governor Bobby Jindal issued a proclamation acknowledging the paralegal profession for providing an invaluable service to the legal profession. The New Orleans Paralegal Association will continue to honor the paralegal profession by hosting an educational seminar on Friday, October 9th at the Bourbon Orleans Hotel in New Orleans, Louisiana, featuring key note speaker, U. S. Attorney Jim Letten.

Governor Bobby Jindal's issued a proclamation declaring September 13-19, 2009 as paralegal week in Louisiana. The proclamation acknowledges the paralegal profession as an invaluable service to the legal profession as well as to the general public. Paralegal organizations throughout Louisiana held educational seminars, luncheons and networking functions to honor their profession including planning an educational seminar to be held Friday, October 9th at the Bourbon Orleans Hotel in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Kathy Williams, president of the New Orleans Paralegal Association, believes there is an increased momentum among paralegals who are self-motivated to learn the tools of their trade. "We are all excited about the 2009 Seminar as it will be the best ever," she said, "we have an exciting line up of talented attorney speakers and a lot of interests from paralegals who want to be leaders in their fields."

The New Orleans Paralegal Association's Annual Educational Seminar will features keynote speaker U. S. Attorney, Jim Letten, and honored guest, Karn L. Weirman, director of University of New Orleans's paralegal studies program, a mentor to the paralegal profession for over 20 years.

The educational seminar is from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and features the following speakers: Jefferson Parish Sheriff Newell Normand, "Make it Your Business to Know: Corporate Compliance", Joel E. Cape, Esq., with Frilot, LLC, "A Primer on Intellectual Property Law", Eric Liddick, Esq., with Jones Walker, "You've Been Served! LOL: Is Service through Facebook Really Possible?", Marie Erickson, law librarian and professor at UNO's Paralegal Program, "Legal Research Bootcamp", Sandra D. Miller, Esq., at Entergy, "Recognizing What You Can't Change: Managing Generational Differences in the Legal Community", Claude C. Lightfoot, Jr., Esq., "Bankruptcy Means Test, What Does It Mean?", and Paul Minicler, Esq., "It CAN Happen To Me: Organize Your Documents Before the Next Disaster".

Also in celebration of paralegal week, there were several events throughout the state. The Baton Rouge Paralegal Association's September 15th luncheon featured Dorothy Sullivan who discussed, "The Paralegal Profession - Our Past, Present and Future!". On September 16th, Carl Butler of LeBlanc Butler, LLC spoke to the New Orleans Paralegal Association at the Louisiana Bar Association regarding the "Paralegal As A Problem Solver" and the Lafayette Paralegal Association held their Social and Membership Drive.
