A new study released today highlights the benefits of the parking guidance system at OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg, South Africa. Developed by Intelligent Devices and Airports Company South Africa (ACSA), the study reveals figures showing the impact of the parking system implemented in 2007.
The parking guidance project began due to problems the airport was having with its original, cash management & access control, parking system. Information being displayed on parking availability signs was inaccurate, leaving parking spaces underutilized and motorists unhappy. Due to the inaccuracy, the airport had to use internal resources to manually count available spaces twice daily.
To rectify the problem, ACSA turned to Intelligent Devices along with their South Africa distributor and installer Sport & Traffic Technologies (SATT) to provide a new system. As detailed in the study, the solution was to install an individual bay monitoring system (Intelligent Parking Guidance) to reduce the amount of time for a motorist to find an available parking space.
"The Intelligent Parking system has been the single most successful project from a customer relations point of view." says an ACSA Landside manager. After implementation, the amount of time motorists spent looking for a space was reduced from 8 to 2.5 minutes while increasing parking utilization led to over a 5 percent increase in revenue.
"We were thrilled to implement our Intelligent Parking system at OR Tambo and are even happier to see the benefits of our installation detailed in the new report." said Bryan Mulligan, President of Intelligent Devices.
