GS1 US, a not-for-profit standards organization, today unveiled a new certification program to recognize companies that demonstrate proficiency with GS1 global data quality standards. The new Data Quality Certification Program establishes a neutral source to provide information to trading partners about certified providers, including service providers, manufacturers, retailers, distributors, and other types of companies supporting the Global Data Synchronization Network with product data. The program is seen as essential in ensuring that data is accurate and standards-compliant.

The announcement comes as GS1 US puts in motion its 10th annual U Connect Conference in San Antonio, where over 1,000 attendees will gather to network and learn the fundamentals of the GS1 System from standards experts, and supply-chain best practices from industry end-users.

Those who achieve certification will undergo a rigorous process, through which they must:
1.    Demonstrate knowledge of GS1 GDSN Package Measurement Standards
2.    Possess National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) certified digital equipment for linear and weight measurement
3.    Undergo periodic reviews/internal audits to ensure strict adherence to program requirements and GDSN standards

“The GS1 US Data Quality Certification Program is an integral part of our objective to improve product data quality and the effectiveness of the Global Data Synchronization Network (GDSN),” said Tim Meester, vice president, Product Solutions, GS1 US.

The initial scope of the program certifies providers of accurate product information as measured with GS1 package measurement standards. Data audited by Certified Data Quality providers will be used to support the 1SYNC Data Accuracy Scorecard, which is currently in implementation stages with major retailers in the U.S. The Scorecard compares a retailer’s view of the product dimensional data with the same information provided through the GDSN.

Service providers that are certified will be designated as GS1 US Data Quality Solution Partners.
