O&O DiskImage 2 Released: Includes Dynamic Driver Integration -- a First

Version 2 of O&O DiskImage is available with immediate effect. It now supports Windows Vista in all versions (32 and 64 Bit) and offers a world’s first when starting a restoration under Windows Vista PE with the dynamic option of loading drivers onto the system. The common problem experienced by users when making backups or images whereby the Start CD contains no appropriate drivers is now solved.

With O&O DiskImage 2, O&O Software GmbH from Berlin now introduces the newest version of its data imaging solution, now Windows Vista compatible too. Various algorithms for imaging and restoration have been fundamentally overhauled and now offer even wider support of all existing storage volumes. It is now also possible to image dynamic and GPT volumes. Damaged or unrecognized file systems can also be imaged and restored by making a direct forensic image.

O&O DiskImage 2 will be available in two different variations: as an installation version for use under Windows operating systems, and on its own Start CD, from where O&O DiskImage 2 can be directly started based on Windows Vista. This means defective systems can also be backed up, protecting crucial personal or business information from a new installation. All images can be mounted under Windows as virtual drives, enabling access to individual files or directories without the need for a complete restoration.

A new and unique feature of Version 2 is the dynamic integration of drivers with new O&O DriverLoader under Windows Vista PE. When the Start CD-ROM boots up, this module searches the computer for all available hardware components. Should components be recognized where no driver exists, the program will display this and the user can then simply upload them from a USB-Stick, CD or Diskette. The drivers are integrated dynamically into the system, thus filling the gap left by most other backup products when no drivers exist for new or exotic hardware.

With O&O DiskImage 2, particular attention has been paid to simplicity, thereby enabling new computer users an easy introduction to the program. An entire computer can be backed up, without any prior experience and with just a few mouse clicks. All settings are automatically processed, up until selecting the storage location. Regular imaging is the single most effective protection against data loss. O&O DiskImage provides the option of an incremental imaging as well as an entire image, whereby only the changes made since the previous image are saved. This saves both time and disk space. All imaging operations can be carried out whilst work on the PC continues, as O&O DiskImage 2 is extremely light on resources and works entirely in the background.

O&O DiskImage 2 can write imaged data onto CDs or DVDs. It contains its own in-built free burning program, but naturally all other popular programs can also be used for that purpose. The data being saved can then be compressed, to save substantial disk space, or encrypted to prevent any unwanted access.

The most important features at a glance:

  • Sector based imaging of all data onto a drive
  • Incremental imaging of data onto a drive
  • Complete cloning of storage volumes
  • BareMetal option in the CD version of O&O DiskImage for Start with no prior Installation
  • Dynamic integration of unrecognized drivers with O&O DriverLoader
  • Support of dynamic and GPT drives as well as RAIDs
  • Compression and encryption to 256-Bit
  • Splitting of image files (automatic or user-defined) onto several CDs/DVDs
  • Images can be mounted under Windows Explorer as virtual drives
  • Supports numerous current Windows operating systems, including Windows Vista (32 and 64-Bit)
  • Option to exclude files and/or file groups and folders
