Harris County Commissioners Court voted unanimously Tuesday to appoint former County Attorney and Houston litigator Michael P. Fleming to the board of the Harris County-Houston Sports Authority.
The appointment, which is effective immediately, marks Fleming's latest turn as a public servant. Before that he was the elected Harris County Attorney after he won election in 1996. He was re-elected to a second term in 2000.
"The Sports Authority has had a hand in building more than $1 billion in sports venues in Harris County and is now tasked mainly with repaying the debt generated by those projects," Fleming said after receiving the Commissioners Court appointment. "I will be honored to serve as a public watchdog on that board and am again pleased to get the opportunity to do something for my community."
Fleming has been practicing law in Houston for twenty years. After leaving the County Attorney's Office and before forming the Michael P. Fleming law firm in 2002, he was partner in the litigation section of Bracewell & Patterson, L.L.P., which is now Bracewell & Giuliani.
