SAN JOSE, Calif. (PRWEB) October 23, 2007
Leveraging the WiMAX Forum's recently ratified NWG 1.0.0 specification, WiChorus and SR Telecom demonstrated interoperability with the R6 network interface. With a standard, open R6 interface, mobile operators have the flexibility to choose from a large ecosystem of best-of-breed equipment including base stations and ASN gateways. Without a standard interface, service providers get locked in to a proprietary solution that limits deployment and service options and inflates costs.
"SR Telecom is working with partners like WiChorus to provide our carrier customers with a WiMAX environment that is optimized for service delivery," said Serge Fortin, president and CEO of SR Telecom. "Together we offer our carrier customers the flexibility to build out their infrastructure in a cost-effective fashion while providing them with a migration path from fixed to mobile WiMAX. WiChorus' commitment to a truly open ecosystem is directly in line with our interoperability strategy, whether with the R6 interface or Customer Premises Equipment. Through our partnership with WiChorus, we believe we have enhanced our value proposition to customers."
"As part of the One Open WiMAX initiative, WiChorus and SR Telecom are driving the transformation from a traditionally closed wireless core to an open, horizontal model that spurs innovation, competition provides best-of-breed choice for carriers," said Rehan Jalil, president and CEO of WiChorus. "By working directly with major WiMAX base station companies like SR Telecom, WiChorus has facilitated the adoption of a single open R6 interface that gives operators the choice and flexibility needed to deploy profitable WiMAX networks."
The One Open WiMAX initiative has accelerated the availability of WiMAX Forum-compliant infrastructure equipment, ensuring service providers have the option to combine industry-leading infrastructure equipment to build their networks. WiChorus is making the goal of an open ecosystem a reality through its participation in the WiMAX Forum and its industry-leading One Open WiMAX initiative. The goal of this vendor-neutral initiative is to ensure the adoption of fully open WiMAX standards, including the adoption of a single open R6 interface, and demonstrate multi-vendor interoperability across the entire mobile ecosystem. To achieve this, WiChorus has invested significant R&D resources in providing test and simulation tools, an advanced test lab facility, and software components.
