Online-Education.net – a site that provides students with information about hundreds of online courses and online degree programs recently wrapped up the second round of the “Win $2,000 for College!” Scholarship Essay Contest. Participants submitted an essay for a chance to win a scholarship.

This contest provided a platform for current and prospective students to showcase their opinions and writing skills in a creative and fun way

Online-Education.net, a portal for students seeking online education, recently chose Georgia Doucette as the winner of its essay contest. Doucette won a $2,000 scholarship to the college of her choice. She submitted an essay which answered the question, “What TV character’s career would you like to have and why?”

Doucette, an aspiring teacher and devoted student, wrote about her desire to be like Hilary Swank’s character Erin Gruwell in “Freedom Writers.”

“This contest provided a platform for current and prospective students to showcase their opinions and writing skills in a creative and fun way,” said Anne Larsson, spokesperson for Online-Education.net. “Georgia’s essay was very engaging and showed how strongly she believes in furthering her own education to ultimately reach her goal of becoming an inner-city school teacher.”

Doucette’s winning essay can be read here: “Let Freedom Ring - Hilary Swank in ‘Freedom Writers.’”

Additionally, Online-Education.net launched its third scholarship contest May 3, 2011. Two entrants will have the chance to win a $2,000 scholarship award for answering one of the two essay topics: “If you could pick anyone, dead or alive, famous or not, to be your teacher, who would it be and why?” and “Describe a moment that inspired you to get an education.”

“With each scholarship contest we launch, we see more and more quality entries,” Larrson commented. “We are happy to be able to provide students with the opportunity to showcase their talents and help fund their educational goals.”
