AADM Announces Final Call for Disaster Medicine Award Nominations

The disaster medicine award recognizes contributions to public health in disaster planning and response.

The American Academy of Disaster Medicine promotes the importance and practice of disaster health care, ensuring that all physicians are aware and prepared to effectively respond to disasters either natural or man-made.

The American Academy of Disaster Medicine© (AADM©) is issuing a final call for nominations for the 2013 Distinguished Service Award, which honors deserving individuals, organizations and communities positively affecting public health care in the disaster life cycle -- preparation, planning, response and recovery.

Individuals, organizations or communities making a positive difference in emergency preparedness and disaster health care response are eligible.

The deadline for submissions of April 30 is rapidly approaching. Nomination submission details are available at http://www.aapsus.org/american-academy-disaster-medicine/aadm-award-nomination. Recipient(s) will be announced June 25, 2013 in San Juan, Puerto Rico at the American Association of Physician Specialists House of Delegates and Annual Scientific Meeting.

According to Geoffrey Simmons, MD, an internist from Eugene, OR, “The American Academy of Disaster Medicine promotes the importance and practice of disaster health care, ensuring that all physicians are aware and prepared to effectively respond to disasters either natural or man-made.” Dr. Simmons is the current president of AADM.
