The Great Depression was one of the events that marked the late 1920s and 1930s. Necessities like food and shelter became luxuries that only a few could afford. It was a time of great hardship and strife for millions of Americans but it was an even more grueling period for the many immigrants who came to America hoping to start a new and better life. In his new novel, A Gathering of Thieves, bestselling author A.L. Provost sends readers into this bleak period of history where they will witness the journey of people whose lives are irrevocably changed by the challenges they encounter.

During the Great Depression, thousands of German immigrants fled their country and arrived in America hoping to escape the debilitating conditions that existed in Europe. Unfortunately, they arrived with the grim discovery that their misery had followed them across the wide Atlantic; America was not the land of dreams and opportunity that they had hoped it to be. In Provost’s gripping historical fiction, he tells the story of four German immigrants who were forced to resort to lives of crime in order to survive. Their odyssey paints a deeply affecting portrait of the human spirit tested by the times and by moral dilemmas.

Powerfully haunting and absorbing, A Gathering of Thieves is a gritty story of real souls and of life unfolding against the tense drama of the Great Depression.
