Prairie Living at Chautauqua in Carbondale, Illinois, is hosting a community health education program on Resolving to Eat Better at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 9.
The BMA affordable assisted living community serves older adults of all incomes, including those on Medicaid, who need some help to maintain their independence.
"We invite you to come and join us as registered dietician Brian Carroll talks about healthy eating and maintaining a proper diabetic diet," says Heather Laughton-Etherton, Administrator of Prairie Living.
He also will be sharing meal selection tips, providing information about portion sizes, and answering questions about healthy eating.
"Come and kick-start your way to better eating in 2013," says Etherton.
The program is open to the public. There is no charge to attend.

The Prairie Living assisted living community is located at 955 Villa Ct. in Carbondale, Illinois.
"We are the only senior living community in Jackson County to be certified to operate through the Illinois Supportive Living program," says Etherton.
"Residents benefit from the opportunity to live in a private apartments and receive personal assistance and help with medications," she says.
Each of the apartments features a kitchenette, spacious bathroom with shower and grab bars, and emergency alert system.
Certified nursing assistants are on-duty 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Meals, housekeeping and laundry are among the included services.
"Our focus is on providing residents with love, compassion and dignity in addition to care and assistance," says Etherton. "Our emphasis is on helping residents to achieve and maintain as much independence as possible for as long as possible."
