San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) December 06, 2012
Au Pair Care, the leading au pair agency that provides affordable live-in child care services to American families, is proud to announce that Ana Flavia Paes, an au pair from Brazil, has been selected as the winner of the 2012 Ultimate Au Pair Essay Contest. Ana was selected based on her patience and compassion to the Hopkins family of Sayville, New York.
Ana is the oldest of three children and part of a large extended family. Both of her parents are police officers and Ana spent a year working as the police commander’s secretary to help pay for college. She came to the U.S. as an au pair to have the opportunity to live abroad with another family and take care of children – something she hopes will help with her future plans of becoming a teacher.
Laura Hopkins, Ana’s host mother, nominated Ana for this award because of her devotion to Laura’s children, two-year-old Ethan and four-year-old Luke. Luke, who is autistic, blossomed during Ana’s time with the family, and became more self-sufficient. He attained many milestones – from becoming potty trained to feeding himself to being able to communicate his needs – that were helped along by Ana’s caring nature. In addition, Ana taught Ethan how to count in English and Portuguese, and learn his shapes, letters and animal sounds.
“When you are a working mom you have a lot of guilt about not being home with your children – and when you are the mom of a special needs child, that guilt is double,” said Hopkins in her essay nominating Ana for the award. “But knowing Ana was with my children made it so much easier. We don’t see her as an employee. We see her as a family member, a friend and an angel from heaven.”
Au Pair Care established the annual Ultimate Au Pair Essay Contest to recognize the hard work and achievements of the many great au pairs participating in its au pair program. The award honors au pairs who are dedicated child care providers and offer an awe-inspiring amount of support to their host family. Ana was selected out of 70 compelling and heart-warming submissions from Au Pair Care families across the U.S. regarding their experience hosting an international au pair.
“I feel that Ana winning this contest simply confirms her love of children and her ability to make a real difference in the lives of the Hopkins family,” said Pat Poppiti, area director, Au Pair Care. “I was most touched when she told me that the biggest reward for her was to work with the children and that she knew that she had the perfect host family as soon as she arrived in their home.”
An au pair is a young adult from another country who lives with a family and provides in-home child care services in exchange for room and board and a weekly stipend. Au pairs work up to 45 hours per week, offering a flexible schedule that can accommodate an individual family’s needs.
Au Pair Care’s standard au pair program offers American families one year of live-in child care. Au Pair Care also offers an infant specialized program and an extension program for families who wish to continue the program past the initial 12 months. The cost of an au pair from Au Pair Care is approximately $350 per week, regardless of the number of children in the family. Au Pair Care’s au pairs are between 18 and 26 years old, have extensive child care experience, speak conversational English, and come from more than 40 different countries.
