BreakThrough Physical Therapy (BTPT) is proud to announce that Cheryl Pfruender, PT, DPT, MTC, OCS has received training and earned the professional designation of Orthopaedic Certified Specialist. This board-certification is granted by the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) American Board of Physical Therapy Specialists (ABPTS) and involves rigorous application and examination processes and provides assurance to patients and the medical community of Dr. Pfruender’s skills and abilities. Dr. Pfruender is recognized for advanced knowledge, experience, and skills in the practice of orthopaedic physical therapy and the conditions affecting bones, joints, ligaments, tendons, muscles, and nerves. Dr. Pfruender is the clinic manager at the BTPT Winston Salem location.

Similar to physician specialization, there are eight specialty areas in which physical therapists can be board certified. Roughly 6.5% of the physical therapists in the United States are Board Certified in a specialty and only 3.9% of therapists in the United States are Orthopaedic Certified Specialists. Those with this advanced certification are considered to have a great depth of knowledge and skills in their specialty area of physical therapy.

“This certification has taught me how to treat different types of orthpaedic issues and I am now better prepared to help patients in Winston Salem,” states Dr. Pfruender. “I look forward to providing better care for my patients and helping them get back to doing the activities they love as quickly as possible.”

In 2005, Dr. Pfruender graduated with a Doctorate of Physical Therapy and a Manual Therapy Certificate from St. Augustine University in Florida. She has attended continuing education courses in Orthotics, treatment of Vestibular BPPV (positional vertigo), and spine disorders.
