I am looking forward to treating patients at an even higher level now that I have my OCS certification; I will be able to help them become stronger and more confident in their abilities.
Fayetteville, North Carolina (PRWEB) June 19, 2013
BreakThrough Physical Therapy (BTPT) is proud to announce that Corey Smith, PT, DPT, OCS has received training and earned the professional designation of Orthopaedic Certified Specialist. This board-certification is granted by the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) American Board of Physical Therapy Specialists (ABPTS) and involves rigorous application and examination processes and provides assurance to patients and the medical community of Dr. Smith’s skills and abilities. Dr. Smith is recognized for advanced knowledge, experience, and skills in the practice of orthopaedic physical therapy and the conditions effecting bones, joints, ligaments, tendons, muscles, and nerves. Dr. Smith is the clinic manager at the BTPT Fayetteville location on Ramsey Street.
Similar to physician specialization, there are eight specialty areas in which physical therapists can be board certified. Roughly 6.5% of the physical therapists in the United States are Board Certified in a specialty and only 3.9% of therapists in the United States are Orthopaedic Certified Specialists. Those with this advanced certification are considered to have a great depth of knowledge and skills in their specialty area of physical therapy.
“My love of learning is fueled by my desire to help patients who are suffering from painful conditions,” states Dr. Smith. “I am looking forward to treating patients at an even higher level now that I have my OCS certification; I will be able to help them become stronger and more confident in their abilities.”
Dr. Smith received his Doctorate of Physical Therapy (DPT), from Upstate Medical University in 2010. Prior to earning his DPT, he received a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Business Management from LeMoyne College. He furthered his orthopaedic specialization by enrolling in Evidence In Motion’s Orthopedic Residency program, which he completed in July of 2012. In 2013 Dr. Smith became a certified Trigger Point Dry Needling, also known as intramuscular manual therapy, provider.
