It starts with the educators, from kindergarten through college. By promoting how fun math and science can be, we inspire the next generation of innovators and prepare them for the demands of the future job market.

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) October 05, 2012

University of California, Berkeley astronomy Professor Alex Filippenko was chosen as one of the prominent Bay Area personalities to soar over the San Francisco Bay Area in a pre-performance flight with the Blue Angels on October 3, 2012. Professor Filippenko was selected, along with Pilot Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger, and Grant Lodes of KRON TV, for his ability to make science accessible. As an educator and parent, Professor Filippenko felt this experience is a great opportunity for him to share with the Bay Area public the science aspects of his flight experience, and how important science and technology are to innovation. As he soars over world renowned technology firms such as Apple, Google, Facebook, Cisco, and Intel, he cannot help but reflect on the technological innovations that made these successful companies possible and the fact that it all starts in the classroom. As Professor Filippenko says, “What if we all focused on education and the important role it plays in our lives. The innovation that math and science foster can make life better for all of us. It starts with the educators, from kindergarten through college. By promoting how fun math and science can be, we inspire the next generation of innovators and prepare them for the demands of the future job market.”

Professor Filippenko is an advisor to the educational outreach program, piZone.org. piZone supports and promotes how entertaining math and science can be with lessons, fun facts, games, contests, and videos. In anticipation of National Pi Day – March 14, 2013 – piZone is assisting in sharing the science and innovation that makes these unique flight experiences possible, and to thank the Blue Angels for their annual support of Fleet week.
