As Toyota regained its global lead in December as the top-selling auto maker, Brent Brown Toyota Scion in Utah responded to a plea from Westmore Elementary School in Orem. The school needed assistance to build a playground. So, students created big posters requesting help which the dealership posted around its showroom, capturing public interest in the effort. For every car sold in November and December, the dealership agreed to donate $10 towards the school for new playground equipment. Terrific public support over the holidays fueled the sale of 462 cars and trucks during the period. This enabled Brent Brown Toyota Scion to raise $4,620 for the school. Today, a check was delivered to the school and its principal, John Shelton.
“We are thrilled with this contribution to our goal of updating all playground equipment for a safer student play area,” states John Shelton. “Brent Brown Toyota has always been generous in supporting education and they were first to respond in our outreach to area businesses. We certainly hope others will join this investment in our children’s future.”
Westmore Elementary has raised $18,000 of the $30,000 needed to reach its goal to match it’s soon to be completed classroom buildings with an advanced playground design. Westmore is a Title 1 school that was recently designated a "high progressing school" by the state of Utah for their ability to help students at all levels make great progress as evidenced by the latest Utah Comprehensive Accountability System (UCAS) report. Since 2007, the school has seen more than a 20 percent rise in Math scores and more than 30 percent rise in Science.
