Miami, FL (PRWEB) March 18, 2013

On February 21, 2013, after years of expectation and anticipation, the FDA has approved Allergan’s Natrelle 410 Highly Cohesive Anatomically Shaped Silicone-Filled Breast Implants, often referred to as “gummy bear” implants.

Approval for Allergan’s new implants has been highly anticipated, and many physicians and patients alike are very excited by this announcement as they offer an important alternative to traditional round breast implants. In fact, in other countries where they are already available and in use, such as Canada and many countries throughout Europe, the Natrelle 410 shaped gel implant has become the most popular choice in shaped gel implants.

The Natrelle 410 shaped gel implant is designed to provide a more natural look and feel as it mimics the shape and slope of a natural breast, with a tear-drop shape, flatter upper pole and fuller lower curve. Furthermore, the highly cohesive silicone gel is designed to hold its shape over time, resisting rupture, leakage and other stress, while remaining flexible and soft to the touch. In fact, its consistency is similar to that of a gummy bear, thus the nickname the “gummy bear” implant. The FDA has approved the implant for use in breast augmentation for women 22 years of age and older, as well as for use in breast reconstruction and breast revision surgery. Approval followed extensive review of various studies and data, including the results of pre-clinical testing and Allergan’s 10-year clinical study.

Dr. Max Polo of Polo Plastic Surgery has completed the certification programs required by Allergan for use of the 410 implants in both breast augmentation and breast reconstruction, which include instruction on surgical technique and patient selection. He will now be able to offer the Natrelle 410 shaped gel implant option to patients at his South Miami Practice. While round silicone and saline breast implants are still a good option for many women, Dr. Polo is excited to offer his patients another choice in breast augmentation and in breast reconstruction to achieve exceptional, natural results.
