John Grisham’s novels are world famous for being fast-paced, heart-stopping legal thrillers. The Teton Range between Wyoming and Idaho, with the grandiose Snake River, is renowned for its calm and soothing views. Novels and mountains may seem an unlikely pair, and may in fact elicit opposing feelings. However, they came to be a perfect blend that inspired author Earl Cooke, a retired educator, to debut into the publishing world with a riveting adventure fiction, Redemption of A Dark Hero.
Cooke’s story follows the intriguing lives of Merle and Maria—two souls bound together by an unlikely circumstance. Merle was robbed, beaten, shot, and left for dead inside the trunk of a car sinking fast in a river. How could he possibly escape, and then rescue eight teenage girls from a sex ring? Maria was running away from her step-father’s advances and a hard life with any man. Why give up her virginity to Merle? Merle was running away from a passive life and wife. Why give up everything and start over with this little girl? They both were hiding with new identities from Mexican drug lords. How they come together for a new life was hard to believe; but they had better watch out. Paco Hernandez was coming for more than revenge.
Redemption of A Dark Hero is a novel that will keep readers at the edge of their seats, waiting for the answers to such gripping questions. Cooke has truly done his homework belending his own fascinating cast of charactes, unique plots with their twists and turns, engaging dialogues and exhilarating scenes. He has accomplished his dream of visiting the Tetons and writing his book there. It will not come as a surprise if he achieves his succeeding dreams of having a home in Tetons, and of becoming a well-loved author like Grisham.
