Since 1970, Americans have celebrated Earth Day with eco-friendly activities and environmentally enriching events. Earth Day this year has special significance for Madison, VA-based Plow & Hearth with the welcoming of sustainable business Reuseit.com into their family of brands. Reuseit.com was started by Vincent Cobb in Chicago 2003 as reusablebags.com. The idea spawned from the reusable shopping bag movement, which spurred the company to instate a powerful mission to increase awareness of the plastic bag problem and educate others on the growing environmental impact.
From their inception, Reuseit.com has broadened their product focus to provide consumers with reusable options for all types of use-and-toss items—from reusable grocery bags to reusable bento boxes, water bottles, snack sacks, paper towels, utensils, cleaning products and a host of other disposable alternatives.
“Reuseit.com is a mission-based brand, and this acquisition fits wonderfully with our corporate journey of becoming a more sustainable business,” said Plow & Hearth President, John Haydock. “Beyond being a strong fit with our values, Reuseit.com also aligns with our strategy of building our presence in web and social media-based channels.”
To welcome Reusit.com and to continue with their mission to increasing awareness of the environmental impacts consumer waste, Plow & Hearth promoted a waste free lunch day, encouraging over 350 employees in Madison and Vandalia, Ohio locations to bring zero-waste lunches with the goal to create as little waste as possible.
“By educating our associates about ways to reduce their waste through the use of reusable containers, we hope to create a ripple that will produce a long-lasting effect," said Frank Wood, VP of Operations and Facilities, who is also Plow & Hearth’s Sustainability Committee Chair.
As part of the Earth Day festivities, two of Plow & Hearth’s current partners American Rivers and the National Forest Foundation sent representatives to discuss their eco-initiatives. Employees were also given the opportunity to take part in a composting demo and participate in the planting potatoes in the Plow & Hearth Employee Garden.
The Reuseit.com acquisition marks the fifth in less than a decade for the growing Plow & Hearth portfolio, whose focus on digital enhancement, retail expansion and brand building has positioned them as business leaders in the mid-Atlantic.
Reuseit.com is a leader in the reusable lifestyle movement. It is a place to find practical, innovative and high-quality alternatives to use-and-toss items—the “best of the best” reusables available in many categories—from bags and bottles to lunch, household items and beyond. By casting a critical eye and delivering facts and solutions, Reuseit.com continues to help guide consumers to the truth and take action on these issues as they evolve.
