Albany, New York (PRWEB) May 07, 2012
On May 11, Excelsior College will host a panel of writing and gaming experts from academia and industry for an examination and discussion on the the use of video games – or “serious games” - in higher education programs. The event will be live streamed online for free to those that register.
In particular, the summit will focus on the extent to which gaming – already a centerpiece in the United States military for combat operation instruction – can be used to enhance higher education, develop communication, writing and research skills, and improve the transition to college life or even a student’s approach to academic study.
Representatives from Ohio State, SUNY Stony Brook, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and Rochester Institute of Technology are among those from academia who will participate. Corporate gaming experts Dr. Jon Aleckson, CEO of Web Courseworks, and Tobi Saulnier, founder of 1st Playable Productions, will discuss the development of games in an educational context, with an emphasis on student engagement and interactivity.
Clark Aldrich, a global education thought leader, industry analyst, author and one of the top educational simulation and interface designers in the world, will moderate the event.
Information gathered at the summit will be used by Excelsior College to incorporate serious games into the Excelsior College OWL – a free, publicly available online writing lab.
The event will be live streamed online. To register, visit bit.ly/GamesSummit. Follow the conversation leading up to and during the event at #ECgaming.
