Major International Airlines

Major International airlines on average delivered 78.76% of their flights to the arrival gate within 15 minutes of schedule in March , up slightly from February’s 77.64%. Cancellations for the group in March were 1.35%, down from 1.57% last month. Only two major international carriers: (SA) South African and (GF) Gulf Air, delivered over 90% of their flights on time.

North American Airlines

North American airlines, on average, delivered 79.04% of their flights to the arrival gate within 15 minutes of schedule in March. The group’s cancellations decreased to 1.81%.

(AS) Alaska led the majors again in March with 85.64% on-time performance. Here’s how the North American major carriers on-time arrival percentages compared:

European Airlines

A mix of major and regional European airlines turned in strong performances in March. (TF) Malmo Aviation took the top spot delivering 93.83% of its flights on time. In March eight of the top 10 had at least 90% of their flights to the gate on time. The OTP for the group was 80.54% in March, down from 81.30% in February. Cancellations for March for the group were 1.94% up from February’s cancellations of 1.68%. (IB) Iberia Airlines had the highest percentage of cancellations with 6.26%.

Asian Airlines

Of the top ten Asian airline on time performers, six delivered greater than 90% of their flights to the gate on time in March. The average on-time performance rating among the 41 Asian airlines we analyzed in March was 72.44%, up from February’s 68.18%. Cancellations for the group were 1.28%.

Major International Airports

(HND) Tokyo’s Haneda recaptured the top spot among the world’s busiest airports with an on-time performance of 92%. In March, seven North American airports, two Asian Airports and one European airport was in the top ten. The average on-time departure performance among the top 35 international airports in March was 74.59% up slightly from February’s rate of 73.29% and cancellations for the group were 1.35% down from February’s rate of 2.39%.

North American Airports

(PDX) Portland International Airport took the top spot with 88.52% on-time departure performance in March. The average on-time departure performance for the group in March was 79.92% down slightly from February’s 80.13%. Cancellations for the group were down one percentage point to 1.74% in March. This was likely due to several end-of-season storms hitting the country in March. Most affected airports were, (LGA) 4.82%, (IAD) 4.54%, (DCA) 4.27%, (BOS) 3.35%, (ORD) 3.31% and (EWR) 3.27% of their flights cancelled.

(SAW) Istanbul captured Europe’s top spot with a 91.22% on-time departure performance in March. Only two of the top ten had an average that exceeded 90%. The average on-time departure performance for the group in March was 70.67%. Cancellations for the group were 1.96%, up slightly from February’s 1.81%.

ITM) Osaka International Airport leads Asian airports with 96.48% on-time departure performance in March. Six of the top ten airports had on-time departure performance rates that exceeded 90%. The average on-time departure performance for the group in March was 58.84% up from 52.04% in February. Cancelations for the group were at 1.41%.
