Global Technology Transfer Group, Inc. (GTT Group), the premier provider of patent brokerage and patent transaction advisory services to information and communication technology companies worldwide, announces the availability of a patent portfolio related to various telecommunication infrastructure and implementation technologies.

The portfolio contains 82 patent families with a total of 497 global assets, including 68 US assets. The assets of the portfolio span a broad range of telecommunications technologies, including wireless communication protocols, video conferencing and telephony, location services, user equipment, access points and antennas, and billing and payment services.

The portfolio consists of two telecommunications technology categories—Infrastructure and Implementations. The Infrastructure patent group consists of 43 patent families, including 247 global assets and 37 US assets. The grouping pertains primarily to the underlying technologies that support telecommunication networks, such as wireless protocols, network hardware and access control. These technologies include Quality of Service (QoS) provisioning within the context of wireless data networks that have applicability to (1) 3GPP LTE wireless networks, (2) user equipment and access point hardware supporting wireless communications, (3) data security including DRM and access control, and (4) general networking applicability to both wired and wireless communications.

The Implementations patent group consists of 39 patent families, including 250 global assets and 31 US assets. The grouping pertains primarily to technologies that are utilized by the end-user and that are implementation-specific with respect to service providers, equipment manufacturers, and software developers. These technologies include wireless billing and utilization tracking, merchant services, location services, and media-level communications such as video conferencing, SMS messaging, and telephony.

The portfolio’s owner is a major European telecommunications company that is a leading provider of cellular, mobile and broadband Internet and IPTV services. The patent portfolio not only has strong US and European coverage, but many families extend patent coverage into China, Japan, India and Korea.

“With this significant portfolio, GTT Group continues its tradition of assisting major wireless companies divest valuable telecommunications patents,” said GTT Group Chairman and CEO Michael Lubitz. “The availability of this portfolio represents a rare opportunity for a purchaser to acquire a substantial number of assets broadly applicable to the telecommunications industry.”

GTT Group has prepared a detailed report on the portfolio as well as evidence of use materials to illustrate how the patents have been adopted by LTE network equipment manufacturers, wireless service providers, mobile device operating systems, video conferencing systems, and mobile applications. The evidence of use materials will be made available to interested parties under non-disclosure and non-notice provisions.

GTT Group will approach potential buyers and provide materials explaining the strategic advantages of acquiring the portfolio. In addition, GTT Group’s experts will be available to discuss the strengths of the patents and evidence of use in the market. The portfolio will be sold at a private auction in September 2013.
