The work that Harmony is doing to bring awareness and visibility to the problems of elder abuse and partnering with APS programs...is critical to ensuring protection for elders throughout this country.

Reston, VA (PRWEB) June 13, 2013

Harmony Information Systems, Inc. (Harmony), the leader in integrated health and human services management, today announced its recognition and support of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day. First held on June 15, 2006, World Elder Abuse Awareness Day provides an opportunity for communities around the world to promote a better understanding of abuse and neglect of older persons by raising awareness of the cultural, social, economic and demographic factors affecting elder abuse and neglect. Harmony has already teamed with several states to help in the fight against elder abuse with its Harmony for Adult Protective Services (APS) case management solution, making it easier for states to investigate potential occurrences of abuse rapidly and effectively.

Every year an estimated 2.1 million older Americans are victims of elder abuse, neglect, or exploitation. Experts believe that for every case of elder abuse or neglect reported, as many as five cases go unreported. Reports of abuse, neglect, or exploitation involving elder or otherwise vulnerable adults to APS programs across the country are rising dramatically due to an increase in the elderly population and lack of funding for prevention.

“The fight to protect elders from abuse is far from over,” said Bob Blancato, National Coordinator of the Elder Justice Coalition. “The work that Harmony is doing to bring awareness and visibility to the problems of elder abuse and partnering with APS programs on the front line in preventing elder abuse to improve their business processes, is critical to ensuring protection for elders throughout this country.”

The Harmony for APS solution is rapidly becoming the standard for aging services organizations throughout the country and is already in use by a number of U.S. states, including California, Vermont, Massachusetts, North Dakota, New Mexico, and Kansas. Fully integrated with Harmony for Aging and Adult Services, the most widely used solution in the United States for home and community-based care, Harmony for APS is a flexible, web-based case management system purpose built for APS agencies to optimize investigative performance using industry-proven best practices.

“Saturday marks the 8th Annual World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, a day that is dedicated to bringing awareness to the much-ignored problem of elder abuse and neglect,” said Joseph Sander, president and CEO of Harmony. “Harmony is proud to be partnering with Adult Protective Services agencies throughout the country to prevent abuse, protect elder victims, raise awareness and generate support for programs to end the problem of elder abuse in this country.”
