American astronomer, astrophysicist, cosmologist, author, science popularizer and communicator Carl Sagan once said, “Imagination will often carry us to worlds that never were. But without it we go nowhere.” Indeed, imagination has taken Maggi O’Mally to an extraordinary journey of writing her first powerfully innovative fiction that propelled her into the exciting world of publishing. Her debut novel, titled Aurorae, possesses sci-fi, medical elements and romantic scenes all rolled into one intriguing story.

M. O’Mally’s new book is set mainly on a spaceship. Throughout the series, locales will include the spaceship, various planets, Earth, and even Mouse’s home planet, Katarh. The story follows the life and love of the two main characters, T.M. and Mouse, who have been thrust into a working relationship that allows their attraction to each other to build into love, hoping, as all lovers do, that it will last. The characters come alive and their adventures, secrets, relationships, communication, miscommunication, and even their private lives will make readers laugh and cry along with them.

The plot makes the novel quite intriguing and relevant to readers. Characters keep secrets from each other that are gradually revealed as the story progresses. Mental illness, dementia, eclampsia and food allergies are discussed. There is also that struggle for leadership balanced with compassion, and miscommunication between people causing misunderstandings. Romantic situations are explored; and rape is even injected into the story that points to a sequel.

With its graphic scenes—including zero-gravity passionate scenes—and engaging storyline that makes readers fall in love with the main characters, the book titled after the cosmic wonder, Aurorae, is a work that people would want to read over and over again. In all humility, Ms. O’Mally simply wants her readers of Aurorae to take away a smile. That readers enjoy it would be a great joy for her.

She has enjoyed many of her jobs, but writing has become one of her two favorites. Believe it or not, her other favorite is preaching.
