Commercial Card Research Surveys Focus on Supplier Acceptance of Card Payments, B2B Global Payment Solutions and P-Card Program Controls within Private and Public Sectors

NAPCP partners with Mercator Advisory Group, First Annapolis Consulting and UATP to launch four research surveys on key topics related to the purchase-to-pay process.

The National Association of Purchasing Card Professionals (NAPCP) launches industry surveys, open through March 8, 2013, in partnership with experienced research firms. Topics include supplier acceptance of card payments, including the perspective of accounts receivable; global business-to-business (B2B) card solutions; and Purchasing Card/One Card controls utilized by the public and private sectors. The surveys are primarily targeted at “end-user organizations,” the practitioners and managers who implement and manage Commercial Card and payment solutions for organizations across the corporate, government, K-12 and higher education sectors. First, in partnership with First Annapolis Consulting, the NAPCP is pleased to offer the second edition of the survey, “End-User Perspectives on Suppliers’ Acceptance of Card Payments.” Similar to the first edition at the end of 2009, the second edition is designed to obtain information about end-users’ experiences: working with suppliers on card acceptance, managing suppliers’ capabilities concerning card acceptance, and resolving challenges related to suppliers and card payments. The survey addresses P-Cards/One Cards as well as electronic payables (ePayables).

As a complement to the above survey, the NAPCP and First Annapolis Consulting are also conducting the survey, “Accounts Receivable Perspectives on Card Acceptance.” The goals of this survey are to identify the challenges and benefits of card acceptance for B2B transactions, as well as the related practices, from the perspective of suppliers.

According to Lynn Larson, NAPCP Manager of Education and one of the survey authors, “Together, these surveys will obtain key insights from two important players—organizations that use cards for payment and those that accept (or do not accept) card payments. It will be interesting to see if what end-users think align with what suppliers say. We want to bridge the gap between the two, helping buyers and sellers alike understand each other’s perspectives and the big picture of B2B card payments.”

The NAPCP broadens it research collaborations by offering two more research surveys. Results of both will be presented at the NAPCP 14th Annual Commercial Card and Payment Conference in New Orleans, April 14-17, 2013 (http://www.napcp.org/2013).

In collaboration with Mercator Advisory Group, the survey “P-Card/One Card Program Controls: Public vs. Private Sector Organizations,” serves to compare the practices utilized by these two distinct sectors in conjunction with managing a P-Card or One Card program. The survey explores elements such as systemic card controls (e.g., spend and velocity limits), adoption of Declining Balance Cards, approaches to cardholder training, continuing education requirements for program administrators, and auditing techniques.

Finally, in partnership with UATP, the “Global B2B Card Solutions” survey is intended to shed light on global preferences of end-user organizations and their usage of various forms of B2B payments. It explores organizations’ experiences with different payment solutions in different countries and top forms of payment for travel and entertainment (T&E) spend, as well as indirect spend.
