Filing a civil claim cannot replace a family member who has died in an accident, but it can give a family closure.
New York, New York (PRWEB) February 27, 2013
A woman died after being hit by a taxi on the East Side of Manhattan, reported ABC News (2.24.13). Before hitting the woman, the cab was struck in the rear by a car pulling out of a parking space. What appears to be negligence has left a family grieving, said New York auto accident lawyer David Perecman.
Spinning out of control, the cab hit the pedestrian and pinned her against a pole. The woman suffered severe trauma to both legs. She was pronounced dead on arrival at Bellevue Hospital, said ABC News.
According to ABC News, no criminality is suspected.
“Oftentimes, in cases like this, families of deceased auto accident victims can feel outraged and confused with the way the justice system works,” Perecman said.
“The family of a victim who died in an auto accident may not see the inside of a criminal court, but they can gain a sense of justice and closure,” he added.
In civil court, an auto accident lawyer can work through the civil legal process. While no amount of compensation can replace the sudden loss of a loved one, money can help with the financial and emotional challenges posed by the death. Families of the victims of auto accidents can ask for compensation for medical expenses, funeral costs, lost wages, property damage, pain and suffering, and more.
“Filing a civil claim cannot replace a family member who has died in an accident, but it can give a family closure,” said Perecman.
In 2010, 4,280 pedestrians were killed in traffic crashes in the United States, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Most of these pedestrian fatalities (73%) occurred in urban areas like New York City.
“By contacting a New York auto accident lawyer, families can begin the healing process by seeking justice,” said Perecman.
