Warwickshire, UK (PRWEB UK) 26 October 2012
Many common names will be featured alongside other desirable numbers in the upcoming DVLA auction.
Private registrations like WR11 GHT, AR12 ONS and SM11 THY are expected to fetch plenty of interest due to the names they look like.
“We are very excited about SM11 THY,” said Eric Craggs, Chairman of National Numbers. “Plates that appear as names are always good, but it is impossible to get this close to ‘Smithy’, so we expect it to do very well.”
Number plates in the UK are bound by a specific set of rules regarding how they should be displayed and formatted. This makes some names harder to create than others.
The DVLA are more than aware of the potential, even going as far as targeting James Corden on Twitter. Corden is known for playing Smithy is the award-winning sitcom Gavin & Stacey and was encouraged by fans to buy the plate.
Sir Alan Sugar, who already owns the iconic registration AMS 1, was told about AM57 RAD on Twitter also, while former Arsenal strike Ian Wright was offered WR11 GHT, both of which will be featured in the auction also. Clearly the DVLA are going for a celebrity feel in November.
Celebrity competition should not deter people from trying their hand at bidding though, Eric Craggs encourages.
“DVLA auctions are hard work and can end up being an endurance battle,” he explains. “Going through the reputable dealer like ourselves evens the playing field and gives you the best chance of winning.”
Auctions are an ideal place to buy high-quality number plates as they are sold at trade prices, the cheapest they are likely to ever be. The last auction attracted almost 7 thousand bidders so there will likely be a lot of competition, especially so close to Christmas.
