It's as American as apple pie. It's the National pastime. It's the sign that spring has finally arrived. With teams named after law firms, dental offices, nurseries, and even a fireworks stand it may not be Safeco, but the fans are even more ardent supporters of the players than the most die-hard Mariners fans. On Saturday, April 13th, North Kitsap Little League celebrates the start of their 2013 season with opening day ceremonies at Snider Park.
800 players, plus team managers, assistant coaches, board members, families, and fans will gather together to listen to the singing of the National Anthem, to take the Little League oath, and to watch the throwing of the ceremonial first pitch. A fundraising raffle will be held with proceeds benefiting the North Kitsap Little League program and the concession stand will officially open for the season.
The 1st ceremony kicks off at 9:00 a.m. and is for the T-ball, A and AA level baseball teams. The 2nd of the Opening Day ceremonies begins at 11:30 and will consist of all the softball teams, AAA & Majors level baseball players. During this ceremony the North Kitsap Little League 2012 Big League Fast-pitch State Championship team will be recognized. Games are scheduled to begin following the 1st ceremony and will continue throughout the day.
North Kitsap Little League is a volunteer run program that generally serves between 800 - 900 players. Little League teaches the fundamentals of baseball and softball, along with good sportsmanship, being part of a team, and perseverance. Registration is still open for T-ball players, A machine pitch baseball (7 & 8 yr olds), and AA machine pitch baseball (8 - 10 yr olds). All are welcome to attend opening day events.
