In the U.S. achieving a perfect and healthy smile is important but the situation differs greatly in developing counties where heartbreakingly cleft lip or palate are a major problem with millions of children who suffer with unrepaired clefts
San Ramon, CA (PRWEB) October 05, 2012
Giving many a reason to smile, today on World Smile Day and during the month of October, Greeting Card Universe, the world’s largest greeting card store will donate 100% of profits from the sales of select paper greeting cards to Smile Train.
“October is National Orthodontic Health Month,” says Mindy Rosso-Gaemi, Community Manager at Greeting Card Universe. “During this time, orthodontists and dental health specialists work in their communities to raise awareness of the benefits of orthodontic treatments such as corrective braces.”
According to the American Association of Orthodontists, it’s never too early or too late to begin orthodontic treatment. Modern advances include “invisible” braces and other devices to correct bite issues, leading to a healthy smile and better living. The AAO recommends that children should receive their first screening no later than seven years old. Many orthodontists offer free screenings during October and at other times of the year.
“If you take care of them, teeth can last a lifetime,” says Rosso-Gaemi. “In addition, a nice smile raises your spirits and relieves stress as well as gives a great first impression.” “In the U.S. achieving a perfect and healthy smile is important but the situation differs greatly in developing counties where heartbreakingly clefts are a major problem with millions of children who suffer with unrepaired clefts” shares Rosso-Gaemi.
According to Smile Train, over 170,000 children are born each year with a cleft lip or palate. Most cannot eat or speak properly. They aren’t allowed to attend school or hold a job. And face very difficult lives filled with shame and isolation, pain and heartache. Their clefts usually go untreated because they are poor – too poor to pay for a simple surgery that has been around for decades – a surgery that costs $250 and takes as little as 45 minutes.
“During the month of October, Greeting Card Universe has pledged to make more smiles and donate 100% of profits to SmileTrain from the sales of greeting cards in these unique categories: Congratulations on your Lost Tooth and Congratulations on Getting your Braces On / Off ,” says Rosso-Gaemi.
In addition to the ease of ordering online shoppers can personalize the inside of all cards at Greeting Card Universe with their own text and photo. Custom greeting cards can also be created within 48 hours at no additional cost by requesting changes or a totally new design from our artist community of over 5,400 freelance artists from around the world. Orders can be placed online and picked up - usually within 1 hour - from most Target stores across the country.
Greeting Card Universe’s traditional and niche offerings of over 568,000 cards gives nod to the importance of choice and personalization in today’s marketplace and stays true to its tagline “any card imaginable.” More smiles in the making on the Greeting Card Universe BLOG at http://blog.greetingcarduniverse.com/
