Quixtar, also known as Amway Global, recently ended its three year contract with the San Jose Earthquakes. The contract was signed just prior to the Major League Soccer season in 2009, and expired earlier this year. The event spells the end of what was a beneficial partnership for both entities, with Quixtar/Amway getting good PR and advertising and the soccer team benefiting from the sponsorship.
Another probable loss will be for the Amway Kicks for Kids program. This program has focused on promoting positive changes in the lives of school children, by encouraging them to achieve their academic goals and make healthy lifestyle choices. The Quixtar Company made it possible for the San Jose Earthquake team to visit local schools and also sponsored tickets to Earthquake games.
While these visits are unlikely to continue, due to the culmination of the contracted term between Quixtar and the San Jose Earthquakes soccer team, there is still hope that the program will continue to benefit school children in other ways. During the first year of the Amway Kicks for Kids program, in the 2009 Major League Soccer season, over 150 Earthquake branded t-shirts were given to underprivileged children, as well as over 2,000 tickets to Earthquakes games, so that these children could interact with their soccer heroes face to face and in person.
Some children were even given the opportunity to participate in the team’s half time activities. With all these great benefits, it is unfortunate that the partnership has come to an end. However, Quixtar and the San Jose Earthquakes team will most likely continue to do their best to continue offering beneficial educational and motivational programs for underprivileged school children around the State and Country.
