Nationally recognized speakers and authors discussed a wide range of topics in keynote sessions and in-depth workshops. The topics focused on Adolescent/Young Adult issues, including Eating Disorders; The Chemistry and Consciousness of Pleasure and Craving; Understanding and Treating Trauma; Brain Science and Psychotherapy; Adolescent Sexuality Issues; The Bipolar Spectrum; Neurobiology of Depression and Anxiety; Psychopharmacology and Adolescent Clients; Adolescent Entitlement; Uncovering the Impact of Sexual Abuse; and Bolstering Resilience in Adolescents and Young Adults.
Dr. Carson, a renowned nutritionist and exercise physiologist, presented three workshops on Friday, April 11. These workshops included “Tweens, Teens & Self-Esteem: Why Your Dress Size and the Weight on the Scale Does Not Define Who You Are”; “Integrating the Creative Impulse and the Need for Security as a Paradigm for Recovery,” and “The Brain Fix: Using Neuroscience as a Metaphor for Recovery.”
"The conference attendees were fascinated by what is new in eating disorders and the updated methodology in treatment. Of particular interest was the fact that the DSM-V is changed and that there is a need to address eating disorders at a younger age,” said Ralph Carson, PhD. “There was a general interest in the whole continuum of eating disorders and the need to treat those who are struggling with Binge Eating Disorder. Facts about the neuroscience and brain healing was something that drew a lot of interest and something attendees would like to hear more about."
