If you haven’t heard, Elroy is a set of Bluetooth earbuds that has launched a campaign on Kickstarter in order to raise $30,000 in necessary production costs. Within the first eight hours of Elroy’s Kickstarter campaign, the new, wearable tech had not only reached, but surpassed its goal.
Rob Honeycutt, Founder of Elroy and also Timbuk2, then set his campaign’s first stretch goal to $100,000, and promised to create a custom set of earbuds for Elroy should his project reach that new goal. Just days later, Elroy reached its first stretch goal and Honeycutt then decided to introduce yet another stretch goal of $150,000, promising to design a custom travel case for the device. Currently, the campaign for Elroy is on its way to meeting this new stretch goal.
“Our designer, Brook Banham, did some sketches, and I then started working on the spec package illustrations for the factory,” says Honeycutt of the custom case. “Our intent is to make it an all-purpose case. If users don’t need it for Elroy, it will still be useful for all sort of other small trinkets.”
Elroy is a Bluetooth device that conveniently clips to a user’s clothing allowing the earbud cord to be just ⅓ the length of normal headphone cords. Not only does Elroy eliminate tangled cords and add functionality to a user’s digital lifestyle, but it also provides a magnetic docking station for earbuds when they’re not in use, and serves as a remote control for any Bluetooth enabled mobile phone. Phone docked on a speaker? No problem, use Elroy to control volume and tracks or even answer incoming calls.
