Austin Oral Surgery has made a donation to Colin’s Hope, a nonprofit that raises water safety awareness to prevent children from drowning.
Currently, drowning is the number one cause of death for children under the age of four. Colin’s Hope works to change this statistic by offering resources on preventing drowning in children. So far, the organization has raised more than $100,000 to spread awareness of water safety.
“The story behind Colin’s Hope is a heartbreaking one,” said Dr. William Cain, Austin Oral Surgery’s Georgetown and Temple oral surgeon. “But it’s also the story of a family who suffered a tremendous tragedy and then worked to ensure that other families wouldn’t have to experience the same tragedy. This family took one of the worst things that can happen, losing a child, and turned it into a mission to help keep other children safe. I’m happy to support the great work they do.”
Colin’s Hope teaches parents, babysitters and other caregivers about the ways they can protect children from drowning, which include maintaining constant supervision, teaching children to swim, having children wear life jackets, placing multiple barriers on all pools and hot tubs, learning CPR and checking pools and hot tubs immediately for missing children.
