Glass is probably not the first option that comes to mind when considering materials for outside environments, but ThinkGlass is changing all that! When most people think of glass, they think of the glass in their windows, which is somewhat fragile. But when glass is crafted to the proper thickness (1.5-inch and more) it becomes as hard as stone.

ThinkGlass can create slabs of thermofused glass 4-inches and even 6-inches thick.

In the past year, a striking four-inch thick, 10 foot tall, five foot wide glass monument was created by ThinkGlass for an addition to Veterans Park in Fayetteville, N.C. The glass piece is etched with a quote from former governor of North Carolina, Thomas W. Bickett.

ThinkGlass also did beautiful waving panels illuminating a garden in eerie light. Many exterior glass signs with name or logos of companies have also been produced over the years (Bella Luna, Sommet, Mathers). All of these creations are still in place and continue to endure year after year. Although perfect all by itself, glass can easily be combined with stainless steel or stone for a completely unique, amazing design.

Glass offers design options in terms of color, texture and lighting that far exceed anything that can be accomplished with stone, granite or marble. Because ThinkGlass glass is more translucent than transparent, it comes to life when exposed to natural sunlight, setting the tone for outdoor ambiance. The glass possesses a degree of transmission, creating an illusion of depth that changes depending on the lighting during the day and evolving into the night. While ideal for outdoor monuments, sculptures and landscape elements, ThinkGlass can also be incorporated into fountains, decorative wall panels and outdoor cooking or bar areas.

Glass is also a noble material. It is very pure, and under natural sunlight, it has a luminescent quality that is stunning all on its own. Glass is not a ‘trend,’ but a very real option for people who want to make a bold design or architectural statement in their outdoor spaces.

About THINKGLASS
The ThinkGlass story began in 1999 in an empty room under the leadership of two creative individuals who were passionate about beautiful glasswork. Today, the company is one of the most successful glass design and manufacturing studios in the world with a shop that encompasses more than 30,000 square feet, 27 employees and 21 state-of-the-art, custom made ovens.

ThinkGlass is still headed by its two original founders – glass master Michel Mailhot who is the artistic soul of the company, and Bertrand Charest, a certified engineer and company president. Together with their talented team, they produce all manners of glass masterpieces, from residential kitchen to bath- room vanity countertops and backsplashes to fantastical sculptures, wall murals and floor tiles, and even large-scale commercial projects for restaurants, nightclubs and offices.

ThinkGlass quickly became a leader in the thermoforming industry by pioneering a versatile technique that allows the creation of new or repetitive textures. This process allows the creation of glass slabs without thickness constraints opening the door to all kinds of design possibilities. All ThinkGlass creations are made from 100% recyclable glass using sustainable practices and without the use of any adhesive or sealant potentially containing harmful volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
