Kicking off the Fourth in Woodstock, there’s the 37th Annual John Langhans 7.1 Green Mile Road Race, Team Challenge and Kids Fun Run. To register for the race, visit http://www.active.com. Post-race festivities include music, ice skating, ice cream making, wagon rides, a picnic and fireworks. For further information, visit http://www.unionarena.org.

THEATER
Following the town’s Independence Day Parade on the Fourth, visit the Historic Town Hall for a live performance of “The Rivalry” just up the road from where one of the candidates in the 1858 Illinois Senatorial election, Stephen A. Douglas, was born. The performance features former Vermont Governors Madeleine Kunin and Jim Douglas and Vermont educator John Dilts. “The Rivalry” is a testament to the willingness of two leading political adversaries to put aside their differences and “reach across the aisle” for the good of the country. Please visit Brandon.org or call 802-247-6401.

SPLASH
The Kingdom Aquafest is a major summer event in Newport. It’s packed with a week full of July 4th Celebrations, internationally famous Pet and Swimmers Parade, Pick & Shovel Bed Races down Main Street, kayak races, Lobster fest, Music on Main, fireworks, and so much more. Kingdomaquafest.com
