Whitespace has revealed its latest work space design at Blessed Thomas Holford Catholic College in Altrincham, Cheshire - a brand new high-tech student accommodation for up to 300 students.
Working with a contractor and closely with the client, Whitespace was commissioned to plan space, supply and install a range of high-spec furniture and design the interior of a purpose-built new sixth-form college in Cheshire. Crafted within a new £6.5m accommodation, this particular sixth form was highly committed to providing the best facilities for its students and asked Whitespace to bring their ambitions into reality.
Whitespace devised a layout of twenty purpose-built educational spaces, which include science laboratories, art studios, a bespoke Learning Resource Area, creative media suites, an ICT suite and interactive cafe area, along with integrated senior staff and Head Teacher offices. The client aspired to an inspirational and highly aesthetic space, which would allow the college to stand out from the competition and display the best of the college's virtues and student achievements.
The project saw Whitespace working closely with the college to perfect the design of the interior layout and then supply and install a range of bespoke products, all designed around the college's brand and colour palette. The social space and cafe was particularly innovative, combining a mix of loose and fixed tables and seating, a soft seating area and bespoke till points, to create a lively, interactive and learning-focused space, where students could relax, socialise and engage in their learning in a new way.
Upstairs on the first floor, Whitespace crafted and installed the cutting-edge Learning Resource Area, which offered group and individual study areas, complemented with breakout zones. Curved desks and modern flip-top tables were incorporated to bring the space to life and use it to its full potential. The breakout zones were also designed with tactile and aesthetically pleasing soft seating, to encourage social interaction and to provide a breakout space for informal gatherings. The Head Teacher's office was also located on this particular floor and given a contemporary design, to create a modern and inclusive feel.
On the second floor, Whitespace crafted a stunning and ultra-modern ICT suite, with bench desks, floor-standing screens and an individual study area. Media suites were also incorporated, along with highly popular kidney shaped staff work stations. Throughout the entire building, extra offices and classrooms were factored in, to encourage full accommodation utilisation and to maximise flexibility of use. Communication is facilitated through the space flow and open design and every element of the concept was DDA compliant and finished during the summer break in time for the students to return and see their new space.
The college is delighted with the result, which matched their aspirations perfectly. Find out more at http://www.whitespace.org.
